fears •• Benjamin's greatest fear is the loss of his twin or having his brother no longer need him. He's always worrying about his appearence, the way people percieve him, grades, friends, and the rest of the things a high school kid would worry about.
hopes •• Benjamin hopes to always be with his big brother, become a social worker, help children, and become famous.
habits •• Where to begin? Benjamin is somewhat obsessive compulsive, anal retentively neat about where his things are kept and furiously private, refusing to let anyone else touch them. He will obsess over small details and likes to touch things rather than simply looking. This includes people. He will play with his the barbell in his tongue when nervous, he is always moving his hands.
general •• Benjamin is one of those 'happy' people. He's not happy as in endlessly cheerful, full of sunshine all the time, OMG shoot his happy ass /please/...- that's just annoying. And plus, this is not some kiddie show - no one is /that/ happy all the time. Not without alcohol or the assistance of, erm, 'not-exactly-doctor-prescribed happy drugs'. Benjamin is happy as in energetic and in love with life. The black haired beauty is a sweet boy, but not sickeningly so. His demeanor is infectious to most; he just brightens the room whenever he walks in. Benjamin is very open-minded, but not to the point of being a hopeless optimist. he likes to see the good in everyone, but if it isn't there then it just isn't there. And if something is beyond reality then it's just not going to happen. Ever. Period. This attitude makes is very hard for Benjamin to interpret 'good' and 'evil'. Really, Benjamin is one of those 'shades of gray' types. Benjamin sees no 'sides' in a war, just causes. It doesn't do much for his ability to judge a person's character either...anyway.
Despite his open mind and 'happy' persona, Benjamin is very wary of letting people 'in'. Those secret, almost intimate things that you would only share with a trusted friend or family member - Benjamin doesn't do the 'sharing thing' like that. This is due to the tendency of people, those he should have been able to trust, letting him down or just betraying him outright. Those that don't hurt or betray her usually die or suffer for their kindness, the one exception being his twin. You'd think this would make Benjamin a completely distrustful person, and it does - to an extent. he appears open and warm, but really holds people at an arm's length. He's the type of person that you could consider your best friend, but you would find - upon investigation - that you know very little about them (i.e. their past, their inner thoughts, their inner pains, etc.).
Benjamin is a passionate young man, but that passion does not seem to extend throughout the romance department. His easy-going, energetic, happy nature goes well with him natural charm and her unusual looks. It makes drawing a man, or woman, in fairly easy. The problem comes in commitment and letting the person into his heart. By commitment problem, I don't meant that Benjamin has a hard time staying faithful. That's definitely not a problem. 'Commitment problem' means staying with the person when things get serious. Not hard or trying, but serious. True intimacy is a red flag for him. Sure, working through the bad, kissing, cuddling, foreplay, even full out sex - all of that is fine. It's talking, like really talking, that takes work. Sharing secrets, sharing the inner workings of his mind/his heart, etc. - those are the red flags.
Benjamin's greatest issue by far is with abandonment. Benjamin is highly afraid of being left alone by all those he comes to depend on, causing him to avoid commitment. It's why he spends so much time in orphanages, nurseries, and homes for formerly battered children. Children, Benjamin believes, will not leave you. Children grow attached and don't wish for the source(s) of their affection to go away. Children don't leave you, they beg you to stay. Or so his reasoning tells him. When it comes to trust, it'd probably be easier for her to trust someone his age or younger than someone older than him. There can be a few exceptions, /very/ few exceptions, but it won't be the 'cheery', 'maternal/paternal' adults. It'll probably be the loners, the 'rogue-ish' adults - the ones Benjamin will believe can cause him the least emotional damage. Adults such as those will hold Benjamin at just as much of a distance as he holds others. /That's/ a relationship he can work with. Once someone does gain his hard-earned trust, though, they will have gained his loyalty as well. Benjamin has an extreme sense of loyalty, but it doesn't take much for you to lose that trust of his. Again, with his abandonment and commitment issues, it's not that hard.
Benjamin is not quick to anger, but once he gets there, he turns vicious. Benjamin's rage is a rare sight, and it's definitely not a pretty one. One quick way to set him off is to badmouth or attack someone he cares about, especially his brother. The more that person means to him, the quicker he'll be to get on the offender's case. One word or move that he doesn't like or thinks is uncalled for and he'll be on your case faster than you can blink. Other than that, garnering his hatred isn't easy. I wouldn't recommend pressing your luck though because once you have it...he'll be sure to let /you/ have it.

parents •• Miranda Goffyn (mother deceased), William Barrett (father)
siblings •• Timothy (twin)
hometown •• Leipzig, Germany
other relatives of interest •• Cat named Kashmir, unamed uncle
general •• Born and raised in Leipzig, Germany, Benjamin Goffyn and his twin brother are the product of a single-parent home - for most of their life anyway. They were raised by their mother, Miranda, a former airline stewardess. She had an affair with a man named William Barrett. Upon telling William of her pregnancy, he demanded that Miranda get an abortion. If she refused, he threatened to break things off with her. This was, apparently, done over the phone. Having no intentions of getting an abortion, Miranda hung up on William and never called him back. They were officially done. Miranda went on to have Benjamin and his brother, resolving to raise the twins on her own. Forget the father, the twins didn't have to know.
Benjamin was blessed with an understanding mother, he must have inherited his open-mindedness from her. At the age of 11, Benjamin was marked as a 'person of interest' through some sort of test. The authorities demanded that Benjamin be sold off to a sweatshop with his twin and Miranda would be paid well for them. Miranda refused. Packing their bags, Miranda took her children and fled the city, afraid that they would be taken away from her. Miranda wandered deep into what could be described as 'the middle of nowhere'. They had traveled by car until it broke down. They'd had no way to get it fixed, so their necessities were packed up and the mother-son trio kept on truckin'.
They eventually stumbled upon a little town and took up residence there. A few years down the road on a deceptively beautiful day, Benjamin's mother ventured out of town to get a present for her sons’ birthday. Unfortunately, the town she had gone to was going through a shift in power. A very violent riot broke out and Miranda was killed. The twins knew nothing of it until strange men appeared at their home, one of them being her uncle who they had only met twice before. They came in and their uncle directed them to another room. Benjamin went, confused and wondering where his mother was, holding his twin‘s hand. From the living room, the voices of their uncle and the two officers (his friends) were carried to their small bedroom.
Their mother was dead, killed in a riot. Now they had to decide what to do with the twins. Their uncle said he couldn't do it. He had three kids and "had not the patient to raise twins". Hurt and heartbroken, Benjamin and his twin tried to pack up as quickly as possible, intending to run away before they could come to a decision. Too late, the three men came in and caught the pair. One of the officers knelt down and gave two thirteen-year-old a silver necklace each - the presents their mother had bought them. They was sent to live their uncle, despite his complaints. Unwilling to even try raising the pair, he sold them to a sweatshop. For two years they worked and worked in that miserable little sweatshop before they broke out with another couple of orphans - the twins then girlfriends.
They were wanted and on the run - a regular Bonnie and Clyde quartet. In a hostile attempt to take them back, Maria (his girlfriend) lost her life saving him. In truth, it was more of a shoot-to-kill and we'll find an excuse later situation. But anyway, frozen in shock at the sight of his lifeless girlfriend, or ex-girlfriend rather, Benjamin couldn’t move and his twin refused to continue without him. His twin’s girlfriend continued to run, by herself and the twins were successfully captured. The social worker they had been handed over to hadn't known about the sweatshop situation. She had only been told that Benjamin had been half of a group of thieving orphans on the loose and the girl had lost her life in an accident while they were on the run. The twins, in the end, were simply sent back to their uncle again. As you might have guessed, he still didn't want to be bothered with taking care of them. He didn't send them to a sweatshop again though. This time he shipped her off to her father in the USA.
William Barrett, their biological father, hadn't even known of their existence, having assumed that Miranda had had the abortion all those years ago. Benjamin had been fairly excited to finally meet his 'long-lost' father, until he came face to face with his coldness. William made no secret of his lack of desire for them being around. He had loved Miranda and was bitter that she had, basically, chosen the children over him. He also knew them to be witches, for their uncle had told him, and hated them for that as well. He was abusive to say the least and Benjamin's only refuge was in the form of his rich father's personal assistant, Derek, and his twin. He became a surrogate father to Benjamin - when William wasn't there to witness it of course. William had three rules: learn English /perfectly/, get good grades (despite the fact that he'd been out of school for at least two years), and no power usage /ever/. Should he fail to do any of those things, he'd be sorry - as if he wasn't already.
Fitting in at school was hard, despite his personality. It was a school full of superficial snobs really, and Benjamin's down-to-earth personality clashed with their holier-than-thou attitudes, his clothing choice did not help at all, to say the least. He wasn't like them, and they rejected him for it. They either ignored him or made fun of him. Friendless and miserable, Derek and his older brother was indeed his only refuge. Their birthday had come up, sweet sixteen. It would be the first one to be celebrated in America. But alas, their father had forgotten, probably didn't even know when it was. He had not, after all, asked. He was as cold as ever when he came home, thinking there would be a cake, a present, a 'Happy Birthday *insert insulting name*' - /something/. He got nothing beyond a few smacks for his "insolent behavior" and a comforting snuggle from his twin. Reaching a breaking point with his father's behavior all this time, Benjamin went out and wrecked one of his father's stores with his twin. They were caught by the police and arrested. William visited them in jail and asked why they’d done it. Benjamin said he wanted to see if he'd notice, if he'd even care.
To teach him a lesson, William left the pair in jail for a few days and nights before dropping the charges. A major 'beat down' occurred when he finally brought the twins home. Then he shipped them off to Germany, back to their uncle. He sent them back. William sent them back. Their uncle returned them. Tired of the ping-pong, the twins ditched their father at the airport and (with a few of his unlimited Visa's and a bank account) rented an apartment in

rp sample •• It was a perfect day on the beach, one straight out of the movies. The sun was shining, but not burning up the scattered fronts and backs of lounging vacationers. It was more than warm, but the passing coastal breeze was a frequent source of relief. The sand was warm to feet both wet and dry. There was just a generally calm, peaceful air settled over the beach. You could see small children giggling and pointing as a someone's father warped the water into various sea creatures. A dolphin. A turtle that coasted along the sand. Seahorses. He manipulated the water into all sorts of shapes. It was a sight to see. Funny, cute, but not sickeningly so. The man's wife came along and pretended to scold him for showing off, but her smile gave her away. Ah. . . it's so nice here.
As for himself, Benjamin Goffyn wasn't on vacation. He was babysitting. Benjamin had volunteered to take some of the children from an orphanage he frequented. One group per outing, one day out of the week. It was a nice Friday afternoon, so Benjamin chose to take some of the children out today. 'Group C' consisted of three girls and two boys: Nicole, Chelsea, Melissa, Cody, and Zander. Nicole and Chelsea were building a sandcastle in their cute little matching one-pieces. They were blue in color with a little skirt attached. Melissa, clad in an orange one-piece that looked like Nicole and Chelsea's, had opted to sit under the umbrella with Benjamin, trying to learn some German. The girl's fascination with the language was endearing and Benjamin always humored her attempts to learn. So far, Melissa could say 'guten morgen', 'auf wiedersehen'. Actual sentences were not on the agenda yet. She had only started asking about it two days ago anyway.
Cody was also sitting next to him, or rather hiding out near him, in his little dark blue, shark-print trunks. The poor boy was terribly shy. Zander was the mischievous one in the group. He was energetic and loud, as evidenced by his frolicking, splashing, and squealing with delight in the water in his brightly-colored surfboard-print trunks. The entire group was no older than six and he must have been a sight to see, laying on his towel as their only supervisor. Benjamin was wearing a simple pair of black swim trunks. The black looked great against his just-beginning-to-tan skin. Alert hazel eyes spied Zander creep towards an unsuspecting Nicole and Chelsea. He had a bucket of water and he knew what he was about to do, troublemaker that he was.
"Hold it right there Zander!" he called out with his lightly-accented alto. Nicole and Chelsea turned, figured out his plan, and shifted accordingly. They now faced Zander and would be able to tell if he planned anything else to disturb their castle-building. The two girls shot him a dirty look before going back to their business. Melissa giggled beside him as Benjamin brought Zander towards him on a soft wind. Zander, despite being called out, enjoyed his little 'ride'. They all loved riding the wind and for an entire hour upon their arrival and settling in, Benjamin had used his powers to satisfy these wishes. Black dyed hair in a high ponytail, Benjamin fixed a stern look on the bouncy six-year-old boy. "Now Zander, you know it is very rude to dump water on people."
"But I didn't!"
"You were /going to/, and that is all that matters. What did Nicole and Chelsea do to you?"
"Nothin'. . ." he said slowly.
"Exactly. Now I'll let you go this time, as there was no harm done."
The boy grinned brightly, consenting to this quickly before running off.
"And no more mischief!" he called out after him. Benjamin shook his head, muttering under his breath as he sat back down. The German looked down as Cody tugged on his trunks. "Yes Cody?"
The almost-six-year-old gave him a curious look. "What does 'fat chance' mean?"
Benjamin smiled slightly. Eh heh. . . "Mmm...why don't you ask Candice that when we get back?" Candice was one of the younger caretakers at the orphanage. Cody just nodded before settling very close to him, large blue eyes watching everyone else.
